MAS National is excited to continue partnering with Oaktree Institute to provide training to this years Rising Leaders cohort.

This year, attendees will go through Oaktree’s online course “The Servant Leaders Playbook. A Guide for Muslims Serving In Islamic Organizations”

This course will help you develop leadership and management skills and equip you with practical tools to serve your community with excellence!

Rising Leaders: An Exclusive MAS Leadership Program

Module #1: Becoming a Servant Leader of the Community

To create change and impact in your community, you must take initiative. But before you do that, you must learn what it takes to be a leader. Of the many leadership frameworks, servant leadership is most essential to community work and reflects our values as Muslims. Without the correct mindset, you can make decisions that will lead you or your organization astray. You must always think about the wellbeing of the community and do what is right in accordance with our Islamic values. This module will teach you:

  • The Mindsets and Attitudes Needed to be a Great Community Leader
  • Understanding the Factors that Put Leaders in a Position to Fail
  • How to Lead with Islamic Values for Long-Term Success
  • The Day-to-Day Behaviors that Must Exist to Reflect Your Organization’s Values

In our organization work, we have a tendency to be reactive and lack strategy in our decisions. But what if we were more proactive and thoughtful in our approach? What if we carefully evaluated the efforts of others and learned from them? What if we effectively involved others in the process? You will find taking this approach will lead to better goals, higher levels of motivation and fewer challenges in your journey. And you will see actual tangible results and progress towards your goals! In this module, you will learn:

  • Goal Setting Tools: SMART Goals & SWOT Analysis
  • How to Best Structure and Manage Teams

Module 2 Bonus Training: How to Run a Productive Team Meeting

Module #3: Creating A Thriving Organizational Culture

After you set the foundation by creating effective goals with your team, how do you consistently do good teamwork? Is there collaboration and trust in your team? Is there psychological safety or are people afraid to speak the truth? These questions are vital because the overall performance of your team will determine whether you will reach your desired goals or not. In this module, you will learn:

  • What Creates High Performing Teams & What They Do Differently
  • Being Collaborative and Having A Feedback Culture
  • How to Build Chemistry & Create Psychological Safety Within Your Teams
  • Coaching & Advising Each Other Through Challenges

FAQs

What is the chapter's role in the application process?

Chapter leaders should identify ideal candidates and share with them the application and encourage them to fill it out.

Do participants have to be a registered MAS member?

Yes, and if that applicant is not already a MAS member, they will need to register and become one before they can fully participate into the training. Here is the link to join MAS: www.MASnational.org/Member

How many sessions are applicants expected to participate in?

There will be 2 Cohorts with a total of 5 weekly sessions, with homework assignments in between.

Cohort 1: Wednesdays 5/29-6/26
Cohort 2: Tuesdays 7/2-7/30

What can the chapter leadership expect after applications are received?

The chapter leader(s) of each applicant will be contacted by the national team to process the onboarding of participants.

Who should we encourage from our chapter to apply?

Try to keep your list very focused. These will be the leaders dedicated to lead your chapter efforts and entrusted and relied upon to do so in the future, and even the very near future.

Is there a limit for the particpants of each chapter?

There is not a maximum amount, but we are looking for 1 person minimum per chapter, 2-3 ideally.

Do the applicants have to be youth?

No, not necessarily. The applicants should be persons that are part of the next generation of leaders that will lead the MAS work in your chapter.

You Instructor: Rami Kawas

Rami Kawas Specializes in the areas of management and organizational psychology. He currently serves as the Executive Director and a trainer for Oaktree Institute, a leadership consulting organization for nonprofits. He has served in various leadership positions for local and national nonprofit organizations, with extensive experience delivering educational and training programs. He has a passion for learning and developing content in the areas of leadership, team management, and organizational performance.

Rami holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from Harvard University focused on human development and organizational psychology, is a graduate of the Qalam Islamic Seminary and resides in the New Jersey area. He loves activities that involve sports, the outdoors, and exploration through travel.
