(Washington D.C.) | May 15, 2022 – The Muslim American Society grieves heavily for the innocent lives taken by hate in Buffalo, New York on Saturday, May 14th, 2022. The racially motivated and targeted killing in a predominantly Black neighborhood and grocery store underlines the continued danger Black Americans face on a daily basis. Ten individuals were senselessly killed, 3 injured and many more traumatized by this racist mass shooting in Tops grocery store.
White supremacy continues to be a threat. The racist 18-year old white male responsible for this domestic terror was allegedly inspired by the New Zealand killer while referencing white supremacist “replacement theory” peddled by mainstream media outlets like Fox News and hosts like Tucker Carlson. This act of violence is not an isolated incident, but part of a larger trend of white supremacist inspired mass shootings that have occurred domestically and globally. It is our moral responsibility to hold perpetrators accountable and strongly commit to standing against hate and hate-inspired violence in all its forms.
We mourn and grieve for the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. We condemn this targeted killing of Black Americans and pray for healing for the Buffalo community.
The Muslim American Society is a dynamic charitable, religious, social, cultural, advocacy and educational organization. Its mission is to move people and nurture lifelong, God-centered agents of change. Our vision is a vibrant American Muslim community striving for a just and virtuous society.
