Khutbah Toolkit: Quick Guide

All praise is due to Allah, we seek his refuge, and ask for his forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from our own bad deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can misguide him, and whoever Allah misguides, no one can guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah Alone, and I bear witness that Muhammad is his messenger.

The True Meaning of Happiness

  • The Islamic concept of real happiness is a lasting internal state of mind.
  • We seek peace, security, and tranquility in this dunya through pleasing Allah.
  • This peace comes from ensuring that we achieve pleasure in the akhira.
  • Differentiating between pleasure and happiness, pleasure in the dunya is temporary.
  • There is nothing wrong with having pleasure if it is halal, but we must find the balance. We should not chase pleasure forever because it will continue to consume us.
  • We should find balance in pleasure (play and entertainment) by keeping it in our hands rather than in our hearts.
  • Happiness is long-lasting and comes from the inside.
  • Examples of halal pleasure are a nice meal or a beautiful environment. They are external, and we don’t have control over the external or what happens outside of us.
  • Happiness is internal, so we have control over our mindset.
  • When Yusuf AS was stuck in prison, he was not anguished; he was patient, calm, and waiting for the decree of his Lord.
  • Imam Ahmad was in jail for 17 years. He wasn’t angry at anyone. He was just focused on making duaa and worshipping the whole time.
  • The key to happiness is contentment with what Allah has given you.

How does Happiness Enter the Heart?

  • Happiness comes from within, from our beliefs.
  • We are always thankful to Allah, pleased with what Allah gives us.
  • Always be helpful to others. Your mindset should be: The help I provide to others makes me happy.
  • Prophet SAW never lived for himself. He always lived for others, giving and sharing.
  • We control that aspect of our life through our actions, comforting and helping others.
  • The one who lives for himself lives alone and dies alone.
  • Abu Bakr and the Prophet received sakinah from Allah SWT in their time of difficulty when hiding in the cave of Thawr.
  • Allah was the third among them.
  • People are ungrateful, running like horses to collect money and gather the material wealth of this world.
  • Happiness comes from other sources, such as charity.
  • Allah defines the one who denies judgment as the one who is selfish, the one who doesn’t help, and the one who is harsh and doesn’t have kindness.
  • If you wake in the morning, your health is good, your body is in good shape, you have your day’s food, your day’s safety, then it is as if you have the whole world in your hand
