Khutbah Toolkit: Quick Guide
All praise is due to Allah, we seek his refuge, and ask for his forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from our own bad deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can misguide him, and whoever Allah misguides, no one can guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah Alone, and I bear witness that Muhammad is his messenger.
Having Hope and Not Falling Into Despair
- Humans go through many difficulties and tests throughout life
- These adversities can be so heavy that they lead to hopelessness and despair
- The Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet SAW teach us that hopelessness and despair are synonymous with disbelief, lack of confidence, and being astray
- In contrast, strong and positive hope is synonymous with having strong faith and confidence in Allah SWT
- We see the example of having hope in Allah SWT from the story of Yusuf AS, as his father did not give up on looking for him after he was taken away
- If you believe Allah SWT is the Creator, Provider, and Sustainer, you will always have hope and never despair of His mercy and power
- Allah SWT commands us to have hope in Him and never despair of His mercy
True vs. False Hope
- There is a distinction between legitimate and positive hope versus false hope
- False hope is when someone thinks they will enter Jannah without doing anything to earn it, thinking that just because they believe in Allah and His mercy, they will enter Jannah
- False hope means that you believe help will come to you without you doing anything
- Real, legitimate, positive hope is a hope that necessitates action
- It means that we try our best to change our ordeal using everything we have, not becoming hostages of our pessimism or despair
- Legitimate, positive hope is when we try our best and maintain a strong belief and hope in Allah SWT that He will take care of us
- Make duaa for the help of Allah SWT and work hard at the same time, and Allah SWT will come to your help, like Musa AS splitting the sea with his stick by Allah’s will
- We must try our best to change our situation and always become better versions of ourselves while having an unwavering belief in Allah SWT
- When we make dua to Allah SWT and have strong faith in Allah SWT, and we do our best by using all means and resources, we have reached true, real hope in Allah SWT
